Abia State University Shut Down Indefinitely Over Students' Tuition Fee Protest

In just one week, UNEC, UNIPORT and now ABSU has been shut down.

Yesterday, Abia State University, Uturu, was shut down, following protest by the students against the management’s decision not to allow them write their examinations unless they paid their first and second semesters’ school fees - fees ranging from 80,000 to 120,000 for second year to final year students and the first year students are to pay 120,000 and above.
The students said the “no-fee-no-examination” directive issued by the Abia State University management wasn't fair, considering the difficult economic situation in the country.
And majority of the students are reportedly yet to pay their fees.

Security operatives had been sent into the exam halls to send students away.
The final year students who were writing their degree exams could not take this and they began to destroy some school properties which attracted the attention of security operatives.

Exams were stopped as the riot continued.

No one was actually injured, security operatives seemed to understand the students better this time and left them to continue.

The school gate was shut and students in the hostels were given till 6pm to vacate the hostels as well.

The school is reportedly shut down for 6 weeks.

Students are not smiling these days o, their voices are getting louder!
